Suspension & Steering Repair

A clunk over bumps, a wandering wheel, or uneven tire wear means your suspension and steering need attention — for ride quality and for safety.

Signs you may need suspension & steering

Clunk or rattle over bumps
Steering wanders or feels loose
Vehicle pulls to one side
Tires wearing unevenly or cupping
Bouncy, harsh, or floaty ride
Clunk or groan when turning

Your suspension and steering do two jobs at once: keep the ride comfortable and keep the tires planted so the vehicle goes where you point it. When a clunk shows up over bumps or the wheel starts to wander, that's both comfort and safety telling you something's worn — and it's quietly eating your tires too.

Ride quality is also a safety system

Worn shocks and struts let the body float and the tires skip, which lengthens stopping distance and makes the vehicle squirrelly in a panic move. Loose ball joints, tie rods, and bushings add slop to the steering and wear your tires in patches. We inspect the whole system — shocks, struts, ball joints, tie rods, control arms, bushings, and wheel bearings — and show you what's loose, leaking, or worn out.

That clunk, wander, or pull

A clunk over bumps usually means a worn joint, bushing, or sway-bar link. A wandering, loose-feeling wheel often traces to tie rods or ball joints. A steady pull can be alignment, a bad bearing, or a suspension part out of position. We test drive and inspect to find the actual cause instead of replacing parts on a hunch.

Why it's costing you tires

Bad suspension and steering parts let the tires wear in cups, feathers, and one-sided patterns, and no new set of tires will last if you bolt them onto worn components. We fix what's worn first, and we'll tell you when an alignment should follow so your tire money actually stays on the road.

Suspension & Steering — common questions

What's the clunk I hear going over bumps?

Usually a worn ball joint, control-arm bushing, sway-bar link, or strut mount with play in it. We locate exactly which one on inspection so you replace the part that's actually loose, not the whole front end.

Can worn suspension really wear out my tires?

Yes — loose or sagging parts let the tire bounce and sit at the wrong angle, which chews it up in cups or on one edge. Fixing the worn parts (and aligning afterward) is what makes a new set last.

Do struts and shocks have to be replaced in pairs?

It's usually the smart move. Replacing them per axle keeps the ride and handling even side to side; a fresh strut next to a worn one makes the vehicle behave differently left versus right.
